The idea of starting this blog came to us a few months ago, conveniently timed with finals, work, and moving out after the semester. Unfortunately, our idea got pushed to the back burner - that is until now. So welcome, you've made it to our very first blog post!
As I sat down to write our first post, I learned that July is actually Plastic Free July. In 2011, an organization called Plastic Free July started a global movement challenging citizens to live a month plastic free. Once you sign up for their challenge, you'll receive an email with sustainable recipes, green tips, and more to help you follow through on your month of plastic free living.
After registering for their challenge, I took their "Pesky Plastics" Quiz to help contribute to their data as well as learn where my gaps in knowledge when it comes to zero waste shopping are. The quiz brought to my attention that I've been buying plastic milk jugs, when there are plenty of alternatives like milk in refillable glass jars or even the cardboard jugs. Sounds like a no brainer, but hey now I know!
Plastic Free July made a list of some easier green tips to apply for your plastic free journey and I'm going to see how many I can do. An update will come with how many I've managed to check off! How many will you check off?
